Sterilisable motors squeeze stellar
performance into small package
Designed for use in medical applications, two sterilisable 50-W
drives introduced by maxon motor AG attain speeds up to 90 000
rpm. Available in EC 5 and 13 sizes, the motors can be used as
stand-alone units or as part of a motor and gear configuration. The
drives are characterised by their compact size, high power, minimal
noise and vibration and marginal heat generation. Compared with
the 30-W motors in the same family of products, they offer 50%
more torque in a package that is only 11 mm longer.

Dispense valve actuator makes fast,
small deposits
A valve actuator from Nordson EFD can help accelerate production by
cycling select EFD dispense valves two to three times faster than was
previously possible. Faster valve actuation also enables smaller fluid deposits,
which are required in the assembly of advanced products such as medical
devices and portable electronics. Incorporating advanced miniature solenoid
technology, the BackPack mounts the solenoid that opens and closes the
valve directly on the valve’s air cylinder, rather than on a separate fixture.
This enables valve actuation speeds as short as 5 to 6 milliseconds and cycle
rates as high as 800 deposits per minute. By contrast, typical valve actuation
speeds and cycle rates are 15 milliseconds and 400 deposits.

Hydraulic-free machining centre
conserves energy
All hydraulics have been eliminated from a new vertical
machining centre (VMC) from machine tool builder Mag. The
compact and modular NBV system can be configured for 3-,
4- and 5-axis contouring or 5-axis mill and turn work, and
features integrated CAM support, program simulation and
four spindle options. In addition to its hydraulic-free design,
the NBV conserves energy by automatically adjusting speed
and acceleration to achieve an optimal balance of cutting
performance, energy use and machine-component life.
